Todd has extensively researched freshwater blue and green algae that are contaminating western Lake Erie waters. As they spread eastward, what harm are they threatening our local beaches, and can their toxic tide be stemmed? How can we reduce their source: high concentrations of phosphates discharged into Lake Erie watersheds from agricultural fertilizers and household cleaning products?
